Sleeping driver found with meth lab
WATERLOO --- Falling asleep at the wheel is never a good thing. And falling asleep at the wheel with a methamphetamine lab in the car is worse. So, it stands to reason, falling asleep with a meth lab in the car in front of the county jail is just about as bad as it can get.
Black Hawk County sheriff's deputies became suspicious when they noticed a car stopped at the intersection of East Fifth and Lafayette streets at 4 a.m. Tuesday. They decided to investigate after the car remained there through two stoplight cycles. The deputies found the driver, Kirk Alan Marvel, 42, address unavailable, asleep inside and noticed a strong odor of ether, which can be used to make methamphetamine.Officers with the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force were called and found crushed pseudoephedrine pills, lithium batteries, a can of starter fluid and a plastic bucket filled with sludge, according to court records.Marvel was arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.
